Blog Migration

I am considering migrating this blog to another URL to enhance my Search Engine Optimzation criteria. I think that I may be missing a number of readers because the URL and the title of the blog do not correspond and people have to search to find me. That's unfortunate. I may also have to change the title to something like Snarkolholica to get the two to correspond.

I found that some buttwipe claimed the snarkaholic.blogspot.com URL and is holding it hostage. Nothing like bogarting someone else's idea....

I'd appreciate any comments regarding migrating this blog. It's a big decision.

I wrote the other day about Wordpress.com starting up. http://dailytroll.com/?p=521 I'm sure you could get Snarkaholic there, and early reports say the system is fantastic. I use WordPress on my own site and love it.

I'm going to have to check that out!

A web designer friend emailed me the other day that the domain name wasn't taken yet, so I registered it. Now it's a matter of figuring out where to get it hosted and what software to use. This is definitely kicking things up a notch for me, but I think the time is coming for that.

There's lots of advantages to having your own domain - I think you'll enjoy having access to really good stats software. As for hosting, I have a couple of sites I've designed hosted with sonataweb.net and have been really happy with them.

For blog software, I'm very happy with WordPress.

just let me know where, I'll follow. My original blog is on my own domain (ohdawno.org) and in Moveable Type. But my SO can't (won't?) help me with the template so I came over to blogger.

I probably won't do any migrating until after the New Year. That is, if I have the chance/time to figure out the templates and such. That seems to be my bugaboo too--all that software stuff. That's why I've stayed with blogger--not perfect, but easy. But, for me, I'm seeing the advantages to being a .com and will just have to buck up and buy myself an HTML book.

Tish, if you need any help, just holler.

If you go with an installed version of Word Press, there are dozens of ready-made themes you can customize and use til you get the hang of writing your own.
